Partner at Bharti Vyas Holistic Therapy and Beauty Centre, holistic beauty expert and BBC Asian Network‘s resident ‘Beauty Guru’ Priti Vyas answers your beauty Q’s & A’s Reduce skin spotsQ: My skin keeps flaring up with spots. My mum says it is linked to a clogged digestive system. What do you think? A: Your mum is absolutely right having a sluggish digestive system can have an effect on your skin. Your body is not eliminating waste for a few days it needs an outlet and that outlet is usually via the skin. However, a build up of toxins, can also make you feel sluggish, tired and irritable. Twice a day stimulate your Large Intestine 11 acupressure point. To find it, bend the elbow of either hand and lay your forearm across your arm to make a right angle. Support the elbow in the fingers and palm of the right hand and place your thumb on the outside crease in your elbow Apply deep pressure and use a pumping action to maximise the benefits. Do this 60 times. To help your system along, try cutting out wheat and dairy from your diet for 12 weeks. Reduce facial hairQ: My facial hair is making my life a misery. It’s coarse, dark and grows extremely quickly – I’ve tried all kinds of creams and waxing techniques, but to be honest, the only way to keep it under control is to shave daily, which I find both tiresome and humiliating. A: Laser is probably the most effective form of permanent hair reduction on the market at the moment. We use an ND: YAG laser, which works especially well on black and Asian skins in particular. It targets the pigments in the hair follicle rather than the pigments in the skin. Choose a salon that Registered as this is now a legal requirement. You will first be given a consultation and then a laser test patch will be done on the area. You will notice a good difference every time, but remember you will need a series of treatments. The therapist will take into account any medication you are on and any illnesses you may have. Expect to need more treatments if you have hormonal problems like polycystic ovaries, which can often take double the time. Eventually your hairs will come back over months, then years. The results are fantastic and they can be done all over the body. If you are looking at being hairless for your wedding day, plan to have your laser at least a nine months to a year in advance. Improve wedding day energy levelsQ: My wedding day (like most) is going to be long. How can I help my energy levels boosted? A: Start your day by using the BVM Ultimate Salt Scrub (200ml ₤21.99) on dry skin before you shower. Use the palms of your hand in large upward motions. The Dead Sea salts will help to slough of dead cells and increase your circulation and the blend of oils in the scrub will help stimulate and invigorate your skin, giving it a gorgeous glow. Also intermittently during the day, stimulate your Heart 7 (Ht 7) pressure point. It helps to calm the nervous system and relieves mental tension and anxiety. With your palm facing up, draw an imaginary straight line on the palm, starting at the web of the ‘ring’ and little finger and finishing at the wrist. It lies at the junction of this line and wrist crease. Support the wrist with the fingers of the opposite hand, with the palm facing upwards, and then locate the point with the thumb. Use your thumb to apply pressure with a pumping action for approximately 60 seconds. Herbal Teas are great energy boosters and they taste delicious! I like Dr Stuart’s Triple Ginseng tea (₤1.89 20 tea bags, www.drstuarts.com), which contains three ginsengs- and the zing of lemongrass to give you extra vitality to see you through a long day. If you are not a hard core herbal tea drinker their apple and ginger tea is just the ticket to give you energy.
